Bloom Baby Blanket

I’m so excited to share with you the pattern for the Bloom Baby Blanket. Try this pattern if you’re looking to make a beautiful blanket and maybe try some new stitch combinations in the process. This blanket is easy to make; the most challenging parts are the lines separating each section. Once you get the hang of those, everything else is smooth sailing from there.

This blanket was made with Lion Brand Ice Cream in parfait and Baby Soft in white. These are both lightweight category 3 yarns or DK weight yarn. The pattern is written for baby blanket size but can be easily adjusted to any size you wish to make.

Approx 34″ W x 35″ L (86 cm W x 89 cm L)

1200 yards of DK weight yarn in color A

450 yards of DK weight yarn in color B

4.5 mm crochet hook

2 stitch markers

Yarn Needle

Tape measure (optional)

Scissors

Ch(s) = chains

Sc = single crochet

Hdc = half double crochet

Bphdc = back post half double crochet

Hdc blo = half double crochet back loop only

Dc = double crochet

St(s) = stitch(es)

Slp st = slip st

Each row will start with a double crochet directly in the first stitch. Alternatively, you can begin with a chain 2 which will count has your first stitch.

In color A, chain 131 (or any odd number).

Row 1: Sc in each stitch across, starting from the 2nd ch from the hook, turn. (130 sts, each row will have 130 sts going forward).

Row 2: Dc in the first st. *Skip 1 st, 2 hdc in the next st.* Repeat from * to * until you have 1 st left. Hdc in the last st., turn.

Needle shows where the 1st dc should go.
Completed row 2.

Rows 3 thru 9 (7 rows): Repeat row 2. Change to color B.

Completed rows; this is a small swatch so it shows less rows than what is in the pattern.

Row 10: With color B, dc in the first st then hdc blo in each st across, turn.

The needle shows the back loop where your hook should go.

Row 11: Dc in the first st, then hdc in the third loop and the front loop of each st across, hdc in the last st, turn. Change to color A.

Needle shows where your hook should go, through the third loop and the front loop.
Third loop and front loop at a different angle.

Row 12: With color A, dc in the first st, then bphdc in each st across, hdc in the last st, turn.

Needle shows where your hook should go for a bphdc.

Rows 13 thru 19: Repeat row 2.

Row 20: Repeat row 10.

Row 21: Repeat row 11.

Row 22: Repeat row 12.

Rows 23 until end: Repeat rows 2 thru 12 until you’ve reached your desired length. On the last repeat, end at row 9, and do not repeat rows 10 thru 12. Fasten off and weave in the ends.

Round 1: Make sure the front of the blanket is facing you. Join in any st with color B and hdc in each st around, placing 3 hdc into the corner sts. Slp st into the first st., ch1, turn.

Round 2: (The back of the blanket should be facing you.) Hdc in the front loop and the third loop for each stitch of the round, placing 3 hdc in the corner sts, slp st into the first st, ch1, then turn. Change to color A.

Round 3: (The front should be facing you.) With color A, join with a bphdc, and bphdc in each st around. Slp st in the first st. Change to color B and ch 1. (Do not turn.)

Round 4: With color B, hdc in each st round, placing 3 hdc in the corner st., ch 1. (Do not turn.)

Round 5 (optional): Continuing with color B, sc in the same st as the ch 1. *Sk 1 st, 5 dc in the next st, sk 1 st, sc in the next st.* Repeat from * to * until you reach the end of the round, slp st into the first sc. Try to place 5 dc (shell) in the corner sts, and space the shells out as evenly as you can on the sides between the corners.

Fasten off, weave in the ends and enjoy!
