Little Shells Crochet Blanket

Hello Crochet Peeps 🙂 Thanks for stopping by my page! Here is a pattern for the little shells crochet blanket. The traditional shell stitch uses 5 double crochets on one stitch. This blanket uses 3 double crochets in one stitch. It’s a really easy pattern to follow and perfect for mindless crocheting once you memorize it. I made this blanket with Drops Baby Merino yarn. This pattern is for baby blanket size, but is easily customized to whatever size you would like.

Blanket Pattern

With a 3.5mm hook, Chain 156 or a multiple of 4.

Row 1: Beginning from the 2nd ch from the hook, sc in each st across, ch 1, turn.

Row 2: Sc in the first st, *sk 1 st, 3 dc in the next st, sk 1 st, sc in the next st.* Repeat from * to * until there are 2 sts left. Sk 1 st, then 3 dc in the last st. Ch. 1, turn.

Row 3: Sc in same st as ch 1, sk 2 sts, *3 dc in the next st , sk 1 st, sc in the next st, sk 1 st.* Repeat from * to * until the last stitch, then put 3 dc in the last stitch. Ch 1, turn. Note: The 3 dc should be made in the sc from the previous row, and the sc should be in the center stitch of the 3 dc of the previous row.

Repeat rows 2 and 3 until you’ve reached your desired length. Fasten off. Attach the border color yarn to any stitch.

Border Pattern

Note: If the border seems tight with the 4.5mm hook, crochet more loosely or consider going up to a 5mm hook.

Rounds 1 thru 3: With a 4.5mm hook, in color B, sc in each stitch around, placing 3 sc in the corner sts. Slip stich in the first st and change to color A.

Round 4: With color A, slip stitch in each stitch around. Slip st to the first st, and change back to color B and turn the blanket.

Round 5: Dc in the first st, ch 1, *slip st in the next st, dc in the next st, ch 1.* Repeat from * to * all the way around. Place 3 hdc in the corner sts. Slip st to the first st.

Fasten off, weave in your ends, and enjoy!

Border Pattern (Popcorn)

Note: If the border seems tight with the 4.5mm hook, crochet more loosely or consider going up to a 5mm hook.

Rounds 1 thru 3: With a 4.5mm hook, in color B, join in any st, sc in each stitch around, placing 3 sc in the corner sts. Slip stich in the first st. Ch 1

Round 4: Sc in the same st as the chain 1, then place 1 sc in each of the next 2 sts. Finish the sc in the 2nd st with color A by pulling through the last 2 loops with color A. In the next st, with color A, make a popcorn stitch. To do this, place 3 hdc in the st while crocheting over color B yarn that is still attached. Remove the hook and place it in the 1st hdc, grab the loop from the 3rd hdc and pull it through the 1st hdc to form the popcorn. Drop color A (move it to the back), grab color B and pull through the loop to ch 1 and complete the popcorn st. *Sc in the next 3 sts with color B (crocheting over the strand for color A). In the 4th st, finish the sc with color A by pulling color A through the last 2 loops. Make a popcorn stitch in the 5th st.* Repeat from * to * all around. Make popcorns in every 5th stitch spaced as evenly as possible. Place 3 sc in the corner sts. Slp st in the first st, chain 1.

Rounds 5 and 6: Sc in each st around, placing 3 sc in the corner sts. Slp st in the 1st st. Ch. 1

Rount 7: *2 hdc in the 1st st, slp st in the next st, skip the sc.* Repeat from * to * as evenly as possible all the way around, placing 3 hdc in the corner sts. Slp st in the 1st st, cut the yarn, weave in the ends, and enjoy!
