Ella Baby Blanket

The Ella Baby Blanket is a beautiful crochet blanket that has wonderful texture and is simple and easy to make. Once you memorize the two row repeat, you’ll be able to work on this blanket while watching a movie or listening to your favorite YouTube video or podcast. This blanket was made with Premier Bamboo Fair Yarn in Rose, Bloom, and Ivory with a 3.5 mm hook. If you’re using a different size yarn, adjust the hook size according to the yarn and follow the instructions to create a blanket for your desired length and width.

Finished Size

28″ W x 35″ L

Materials Needed

9 skeins of Bamboo Fair yarn (3 of each color) or 1850 yds #3 light weight yarn (617 yds in 3 colors)

3.5 mm hook

Scissors

Yarn needle

Abbreviations

ch = chain

sc = single crochet

hdc = half double crochet

hdc slp st = half double crochet slip stitch

tlo = third loop only

slp st(s) = slip stitch(es)

st(s) = stitch(es)

yo = yarnover

Special Stitches

Half Double Crochet Slip Stitch

Yo, insert the hook, grab the yarn, pull up a loop (3 loops on hook)

Pull the 1st loop on the hook thru the 2nd two loops

Crossed Half Double Crochet

Skip 1 stitch, hdc in the next stitch, hdc in the skipped stitch

1st picture shows which stitch to skip and where to place the first hdc.

2nd picture shows completed crossed hdc and where the next set of hdc go (marked by the ‘X’).

Blanket Pattern

Chain 171 or any odd number.

Row 1: Starting with the 2nd chain from the hook, sc in each stitch across, ch 1, turn (170 for every row).

Row 2: Hdc in the 1st st, crossed hdc until last st, hdc in the last st, ch 1, turn.

Beginning of the Repeat

Row 3: Change to the next color, skip the 1st st, *hdc tlo in the next st, hdc slp st tlo in the next,* repeat from * to * until there is 1 stitch left, 2 hdc in the last st, ch 1, turn.

Row 4: Hdc in the 1st st, crossed hdc until last st, hdc in the last st, ch 1, turn.

Row 5 until desired length: Repeat rows 3 and 4.

Border Pattern

Round 1: Change to the border color and join in any stitch, sc in each stitch around, place 3 sc in each corner, slp st to the 1st st, ch 1.

Rounds 2 & 3: Repeat round 1.

Round 4: *Slp st in the 1st st, hdc, ch 1, hdc in the next st, skip the next st,* repeat from * to * as evenly as possible, all the way around, placing 3 hdc in the corner stitches. Slp stitch in the first stitch.
