The scarf in the picture was made with Yarn Bee Denim in Color in the color Ivory which was a 50/50 cotton/acrylic blend that was very squishy and cozy. The yarn has been discontinued, but this pattern can be made with any chunky #5 or thick #4 weight yarn.

ch = chain
sc = single crochet
hdc = half double crochet
blo = back loop only
flo = front loop only

fpdc = front post double crochet
bpdc = back post double crochet
st = stitch

Additional Notes:
Turning chain – Instead of chaining 2 or 3 at the end of the row, this pattern uses a chain 1, and then a hdc or dc stitch in the same st as the chain 1 (the first stitch). Please make sure your first stitch starts in the same stitch a the chain 1, otherwise your edges will not be straight.
If you prefer to use the turning chain, substitute “ch 2/ch 3, turn” where it says, “ch 1, turn.” Then, skip the part where it says “hdc/dc in same st as the ch 1” and start in the 2nd stitch of the row.
Definitions – BLO, FLO, TLO
The pattern also uses stitches in the back loop only (blo), front loop only (flo), and third loop only (tlo).
Back loop only stitch (blo) – Instead of inserting your hook under both loops, you insert it through the back loop only. The back loop is the loop furthest away from you.
Front loop only stitch (flo) – You insert your hook through the front loop instead of both loops at the top of the stitch. The front loop is the loop closest to you.
Third loop only stitch (tlo) – Instead of inserting your hook under both loops at the top of the stitch, you insert it though the bottom loop on the side of the stitch.
The pictures below show a row of half double crochet stitches. The toothpicks represent your hook. #1 is where your hook normally goes in a standard stitch, and #2 is the third loop.
SCARF PATTERN:
Ch. 171
Row 1: Sc in each st across, ch 1, turn.
Row 2: Dc in the same st as the ch 1, dc blo in each st across, ch 1, turn.
Row 3: Dc in same st as the ch 1, *fpdc, bpdc* in each stitch across, dc in the last stitch, ch 1, turn.
Row 4: Hdc in the same st as the ch 1, hdc blo in each st across, ch 1, turn.
Row 5: Hdc in the same st as the ch 1, hdc in the tlo in each st across, ch 1, turn.
Row 6: Hdc in the same st as the ch 1, hdc blo in each st across, ch 1, turn.
Row 7-10: Hdc in the same st as the ch 1 and in each st across, ch1, turn.
Rows 11-12: Repeat rows 4-5
Row 13: Dc in the same st as the ch 1, dc blo in each st across.
Row 14: Repeat row 3, ch 1, turn.
Row 15: Sc in the same st as the ch 1, sc flo in each st across.
Fasten off, leave a long tail to join the ends.
Join the ends together using slip stitches. You can also sew them together with a needle.
