Geo Throw Blanket

The idea for the Geo Throw Blanket came from wanting to make my son a throw blanket that he would love. It’s so easy to find something for girls or babies, but it’s a little more challenging to find designs for boys/men. The goal was to make a blanket that wasn’t too girly that incorporated his favorite colors, red and black, and so the Geo Throw Blanket was born. The yarn used for this blanket is Hobbii Twister Solid in white, gray, red, and black, 3 skeins each. Each skein is 437 yards, so the total is approx 3,933 yards. Hobbii Twister Solid is a sport weight yarn and I used a 2.75mm hook. You can use any yarn and any hook size to make this pattern; you just keep going until you reach the desired size of the blanket.

BLANKET PATTERN

With color A, make a magic ring (or ch 4, then slp st into 1st ch to form a ring).

Round 1: Ch. 4 (This is your first TC). In the center of the ring, place *3 DC, 1 TC (place a stitch marker to mark the TC)* Repeat from * to * 2 more times, then do 3 more DC. Slp st into the top of the first ch. 4. (16) Note: After this round, you should have a small square; the TCs are the corners, and the DC are the sides of the square. If it looks like a circle, don’t worry – it will start looking more like a square after the next round.

Round 2: Continuing with color A, ch 4. Put 2 more DC in the same space as the ch 4. *1 DC in each of the next 3 st. In the corner TC from the previous round, put 2 DC, TC, 2 DC, all in the same st.* Repeat from * to * 2 more times. Then 1 DC in each of the last 3 sts. Put 2 DC in the same space as the beginning ch 4. Slp st into the top of the 1st ch 4. (32) Change to color B.

Round 3: With color B, ch 4. Place 2 more DC in the same space as the ch 4. *1 DC in each st until you reach the corner TC from the previous round. Then place 2 DC, TC, 2 DC, all in the same corner st. * Repeat from * to * 2 more times. Then 1 DC in each of the remaining sts. Put 2 DC in the same space as the beginning ch 4. Slp st into the top of the 1st Ch 4. (48) Change to color A.

Round 4: With color A, ch 4 and repeat round 3. (64) Change to color B. Note: Each round will increase by 16 sts.

Rounds 5 thru 7: With color B, repeat round 3. Change to color C at the end of round 6.

Round 8: With color C, repeat round 3. Change to color B.

Round 9: With color B, repeat round 3. Change to color C.

Round 10 thru 12: With color C, repeat round 3. Change to color D at the end of round 12.

Round 13: With color D, repeat round 3. Change to color C.

Round 14: With color C, repeat round 3. Change to color D.

Round 15 thru 17: With color D, repeat round 3. Continue with this pattern (rounds 4 thru 17) until you’ve reached the desired length and width.
