The Sunshine Crochet Baby Blanket is an easy crochet pattern that uses a combination of the herringbone half double crochet and the 4 crossed double crochet stitch. It’s mainly the herringbone half double crochet, and every 4th row you’ll do a 4 crossed double crochet stitch. It’s the perfect project to learn a new stitch (if you’ve never done it). For this blanket, I used Hobbii’s Rainbow Bamboo yarn. It’s a sport weight yarn made up of 60% bamboo and 40% cotton. The blanket was soft and had great drape using a 3.5mm hook. The pattern can be made using any yarn and any hook size. Details on how to adjust are included in the pattern.
FINISHED SIZE
Approx. 32″ L x 30″ W (81.28 cm L x 76.2 cm W)
MATERIALS
500 yards of sport weight yarn (I used 1.75 skeins each of Rainbow Bamboo in Curry, Primula Yellow, and Natural White)
3.5mm hook (or the hook that corresponds to the yarn weight)

sc = single crochet
hdc = half double crochet

SPECIAL STITCHES
4 crossed double crochet = sk1 st, dc in the next 3 sts, dc in the skipped st
Herringbone hdc =
1. Yarnover and pull through so there are 3 loops on your hook
2. Pull the 1st loop on your hook through the 2nd loop (like a slip st) – now you have 2 loops on your hook
3. Yarnover and pull through remaining 2 loops.
BLANKET PATTERN
Chain 143 (or a multiple of 4 + 2 + 1).
Row 1: SC in each stitch across, ch 1 and turn. (142)
Rows 2: In the blo, hdc in the 1st st, hhdc in each st across until the last st, hdc in the last st. Ch 1, turn. (142)
Rows 3 to 4: Hdc in the 1st st, hhdc in each st across until the last st, hdc in the last st. Ch 1, turn. (142)
Row 5: (Blo all the way across), dc in the first st, sk next sc, dc in the next 3 sts, then dc in skipped st (this is the 4xdc). Repeat the 4xdc st until the 2nd to last st of the row. Dc in the last st. Ch 1, turn. (Rows 2 thru 5 is the repeat.)
Rows 6 until desired length: Repeat rows 2 thru 5.
BORDER PATTERN
Round 1: With the border color, sc in each stitch around, placing 3 sc in the corner stitches. (Optional: use a stitch marker to mark the center stitch of the 3 stitches.) Slp st to the 1st stitch, ch 1. (Note: On the sides, space them out as evenly as you can. Too many sc will result in curling, and too little will make it too tight. For reference, I placed 2 sc for each dc, and 1-2 sc for each hdc.)
Round 2: Hhdc in each stitch around, placing 3 stitches in each corner (this should be in the center stitch of the 3 stitches in the previous round). Slp st to the 1st st, ch 1. (For the corners, I used 3 regular hdc instead of hhdc.)
Rounds 3 to 4: Repeat round 2.
Fasten off, weave in your ends, and enjoy!
