The Crochet Sedge Stitch Baby Blanket uses one of my favorite stitches throughout the blanket. To make it, I just modified the Suzette Stitch by adding a hdc, so I didn’t know what was called. After some research I found that it’s called the Sedge Stitch. For the blanket in the picture, I used Caron Simply Soft yarn in the colors Plum Wine and Off White with a 5.5mm hook.

150 yards of worsted weight yarn in the border color (Off White)
5.5mm hook (or the hook that corresponds to the yarn weight)
Yarn Needle
Scissors
ABBREVIATIONS (US TERMS)
sc = single crochet
hdc = half double crochet
hhdc = herringbone half double crochet
dc = double crochet
st/sts = stitch/stitches
ch = chain
sk = skip or skipped
slp st = slip stitch
SPECIAL STITCHES
Sedge Stitch = sc, hdc, and dc in the same stitch
Herringbone hdc =
1. Yarnover and pull through so there are 3 loops on your hook
2. Pull the 1st loop on your hook through the 2nd loop (like a slip st) – now you have 2 loops on your hook
3. Yarnover and pull through remaining 2 loops.
BLANKET PATTERN
Chain 120 (or a multiple of 3 + 1 for desired width).
Row 1: SC in each stitch across, ch 1 and turn. (120)
Row 2: Sk 2 sts (starting with same st as ch 1), Sedge Stitch in the 3rd st. *Sk 2 sts, Sedge Stitch in the 3rd stitch.* Repeat from * to * until the end of the row ending with a Sedge Stitch in the last stitch, ch. 1 and turn.
Row 3 until the end: Repeat row 2 until you’ve reached your desired length. Cut the yarn and change to the border color.
BORDER PATTERN
Round 1: With the border color, sc in each stitch around, placing 3 sc in the corner stitches. (Optional: use a stitch marker to mark the center stitch of the 3 stitches.) Slp st to the 1st stitch, ch 1. (Note: On the sides, space them out as evenly as you can. Too many sc will result in curling, and too little will make it too tight. For reference, I placed 2 sc for each dc, and 1 dc between the rows.)
Round 2: Hhdc in each stitch around, placing 3 stitches in each corner (this should be in the center stitch of the 3 stitches in the previous round). Slp st to the 1st st, ch 1. (You can also use a regular hdc for this round).
Round 3 (Optional): Repeat round 2.
Fasten off, weave in your ends, and enjoy!
