One stitch blankets are a perfect way to end the day. You don’t have to think about it. Just pick up your hook and your yarn and go.
The other day, I took a look around at my yarn stash and realized that maybe….. I have too much yarn. (What a ridiculous thought, right?) So I decided to just start making a blanket to use up some yarn quickly. I also needed an easy project to work on while putting my daughter to bed. Working on a repetitive stitch pattern at the end of the day is very calming and relaxing to me. After a long day, I just want to relax and not have to think too hard about what I’m doing.
This blanket is made completely out of half double crochet. This is not something I normally do, but I’m very pleased with the outcome. I used Caron Cotton Cakes in Fruit Tropic with a 5 mm crochet hook. I didn’t have a size in mind. The yarn I had left was enough to make a kid sized blanket. The finished size is 40″W x 33″L.
MATERIALS
Yarn
A hook in a size suitable for the yarn chosen
Yarn needle
Scissors
Stitch markers (optional)
PATTERN
Chain any number. Turn. (For this blanket, I chained 123.)
Row 1: Half double crochet (hdc) in each stitch across beginning in the first stitch. Ch. 1 turn.
Row 2: HDC in the same stitch as the chain 1, and in each stitch a cross. (Alternatively, you can chain 2 and hdc beginning in the 1st stitch after the chain.)
Repeat until you reach the desired length. Fasten off, sew in the ends, and enjoy the blanket you just made :).
